Airport: Runway closed 2hrs for VVIP security
The lone runway of Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport was closed for over two hours on separate phases today due to a programme of the prime minister.
Shahjalal’s Director Kazi Iqbal Karim said the airport was closed for an hour and 15 minutes from 10:00am and another one hour from 11:45am to ensure security of a VVIP.
He said the plan was made following procedures and as per a security plan made at a meeting with Special Security Force (SSF). “Airport is kept closed if any VVIP is within a kilometre to ensure security for the VVIP.”
“Usually we are informed a day or two ahead of VVIP arrival. We adjust international schedules, airlines and inform other airports accordingly,” Iqbal told The Daily Star.
