With the goal to make a liveable, ideal and international standard city out of Dhaka, BNP-blessed mayor candidate in the north Mirza Abbas made 98 promises yesterday, which will be implemented on a priority basis.
Afroza Abbas, his wife, unveiled the manifesto at Jatiya Press Club, focusing on 10 issues including civic service, amusement facilities, healthcare, education, traffic jam, communication infrastructure, environment and waste management, ICT, social service, and public safety.
Since the start of the formal campaign onApril 7, Mirza Abbas has not appeared before the public as he faces 60 cases, an arrest order in a graft case, and is yet to get bail in all of them.
The High Court is scheduled to hear today a bail plea of Abbas in the graft case.
Afroza, who has been campaigning on his behalf ever since, said every street and lane would be brought under CCTV cameras starting with the crime-infested wards.
On waste management, she said there would be sanitary landfills and effective measures to build a modern city free from sound and air pollutions.
Afroza said modern public toilets would be set up for pedestrians and bus passengers.
Abbas is considered the main challenger to Awami League-backed mayor aspirant Sayeed Khokon in the April 28 election to Dhaka South City Corporation.
