A factory, a warehouse, 54 shops and two houses were gutted in separate fire incidents in Fatikchhari, Hathazari and Raozan upazilas of Chittagong yesterday.
In Hathazari upazila, a fire, originating at a handicraft factory, burned down the factory, its warehouse and a nearby tea stall in Paschim Dewan Bazar area, said Sarwar Jahan, officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence Office, Chittagong.
Two units from Hathazari Fire Station doused the fire, he said, adding that valuables worth Tk 20 lakh were damaged in the fire.
In Fatikchhari upazila, a fire gutted 54 tin-shed and mud shops in Bibirhat Bazar, said Jashim Uddin, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence Office, Chittagong.
The damage caused by the fire was estimated at Tk 20 lakh, Jashim Uddin said, adding that two units from Hathazari and Nazirhat Fire Stations doused the fire.
Two mud houses were gutted by a fire in CDA Residential Area under ward-6 in Raozan upazila, said Jashim.
Valuables worth Tk 4 lakh were damaged in the fire, he added.
