50% work of Bangabandhu satellite completed: Minister
The government can launch the country’s first broadcast satellite Bangabandhu-1 on December 16 next year according to plan as 50 percent work of the satellite has been completed, State Minister for Telecommunication Tarana Halim said today.
“We are hopeful to finish it by the deadline as the French firm, Thales Alenia Space, has completed 50 percent work of the project,” she said at a press briefing at the BTCL office in Dhaka’s Gulshan area.
The satellite, meant for communication and broadcast services is so far the most sophisticated technological project undertaken by Bangladesh, worth about Tk 2,967.96 crore. Of the amount, some Tk 1,652.44 crore is from foreign loans and the government will supply Tk 1,315.51 crore.
