5 die in road crashes
Five people were killed and nine others injured in road accidents in three districts yesterday. In Chittagong city, a woman was killed as a bus ran her over while she was crossing the road in Notun Bridge area.
The deceased was Sakera Begum, 47, of Cox's Bazar. She was an assistant teacher of Uttar Deyang Government Primary School in Patiya upazila of the district.
Police said the incident occurred when Sakera was going to her workplace in the morning. The bus ran her over after it was hit by a truck which was also knocked by another bus from behind.
Two bus passengers were also injured in the accident. They were rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
In another accident in the district, a trucker and his helper were killed as his vehicle hit another truck which was parked beside the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Khoiachhara area of Mirsarai upazila.
The dead are Rafique Dhali, 26, of Shariatpur and Shimul Mia, 24, of Jhenaidah. They died on the spot.
In Natore Sadar, a youth was killed and two others injured as a truck rammed an auto-rickshaw carrying them on Natore-Dhaka highway in Haybatpur area.
The deceased was Aynal Hossain, 25, of Neelchara village in the district.
In Mymensingh, Rabeya Khatun, 60, of Gubrakura village in the district was killed and five people were injured as a bus carrying them collided head-on with a truck in Tarakanda Uttar Bazar area.
