3,200 Kuliarchar students aim for Guinness title
An attempt for a Guinness World Records title of the world's largest practical science lesson was made by 3,200 students of Kishoreganj's Kuliarchar upazila yesterday.
Prof Muhammed Zafar Iqbal of the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, assisted by 80 teachers, gave a two-hour lesson beginning at noon on magnetism and information and communication technology (ICT).
Assembled by the upazila administration from 28 primary and secondary schools, the students then made magnets on the field of Begum Nurunnahar Girls' Pilot High School.
The organisers said they were also aiming at popularising science among students.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Dr Urme Binte Salam said she informed the Guinness authorities last October of the plan and would soon be sending video footage of the attempt as per their procedure.
The title is currently held by 2,900 students of Queensland who last August smashed the previous record of 2,102 participants in South Africa.
State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak was the chief guest while local lawmaker Nazmul Hasan Papon and Deputy Commissioner Md Azimuddin Bishwas were present.
