31 Ctg drug stores fined for selling illegal drugs
Two mobile courts in Chittagong city fined 31 medicine shops and a business Tk 76.25 lakh and jailed three people on different charges yesterday.
In Khatunganj, a mobile court of the Chittagong District Administration jailed Mir Mohammad Hossain, owner of Ibnat Traders, a sister concern of Mir Group, for one month on charges of forcing the retailers to buy mustard oil along with sugar from them.
Executive Magistrate Tahmilur Rahman who led the drive also fined the owner Tk 1 lakh.
Jane Alam, manager of the business, was also fined Tk 20 lakh while two staff of the business were fined Tk 50,000 each on the same charge.
The retailers have to buy 32 litres of mustard oil if they buy five sacks (each containing 50kg) of sugar from Ibnat Traders, said the magistrate.
However, the owner denied the allegation.
Another mobile court fined 31 medicine shops a total of Tk 54.25 lakh for selling unauthorised and adulterated medicines in Hazari Lane.
One of the medicine shops with its two godowns were sealed off while two staff of Sufa and Sons, another shop, were jailed for three months each.
Executive Magistrate of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) Sarwoer Alam led the court where representatives of the Drug Administration, Chittagong were present.
