3 Daily Star journos awarded best reporters
Three journalists of The Daily Star today received the Walton-DRU Best Reporting Award-2016 for their outstanding contribution to the society.
The three journalists are: Shakhawat Liton, Helemul Alam and Porimol Palma.
Of them, Liton was awarded for reporting in politics and judiciary, while Helemul for problems and prospects of city, and Porimol for external relations.
The following are the stories for which the three reporters were handed DRU Best Reporting Award - 2016.

He knows he will not get a handsome remuneration and will be dismissed after change of the government. And yet, many pro-ruling party lawyers find the job lucrative.
And that's how the country has its prosecution system highly politicised, as successive governments show little will to strengthen the prosecution system with professional lawyers for the important job.

Prime minister’s political affairs Adviser HT Imam handed the awards to them at Shilpakala Academy in the capital around 1:30pm. They each received Tk 50,000.
HELEMUL ALAM BIPLOB

Around a dozen of the city's canals have either been filled up entirely or turned into box culverts to construct roads, aggravating the waterlogging problems.
The concept of box culvert came after the 1988 flood when most of the city came under waterlogging. A high powered committee of the government, formed at that time to mitigate the problem, submitted a report in 1989. After that in the 90s the construction of the box culverts and roads on the canals started significantly.
