25 upazila health complexes to get telemedicine centres today
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division under its 'Info Sarker' project will launch 25 Telemedicine Centers at different upazila health complexes today to provide healthcare facilities to the rural people.
Physicians and doctors of 11 medical university and college hospitals and institutions, including Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Shaheed Suhrawardy Hospital, will provide advice and treatment regularly to the patients of rural areas free. The ICT Decision took the initiative with an aim to ensure the access of the people, especially the rural people, to medical services.
Project Director of 'Infosrkar Project' Saiful Islam said the modern and sophisticated equipments, including Tele Stethoscope, Tele Ophthalmoscope, Tele ECG, Tele BP Machine and Tele Microscope, have been sent to 25 Upazila health complexes to run those Telemedicine Centers.
"Providing treatment using telemedicine services is most modern system which creates opportunity for the patients of rural area to have treatment from expert physicians" said Zunaid Ahmed Palak , the state minister for ICT.
"We have just started launching Telemedicine Center in a limited scale now but we have a plan to increase the number in future," Palak added.
