11 rescued from Bashundhara City mall fire
Eleven people, who were trapped on the rooftop of Bashundhara City shopping complex in Dhaka’s Panthapath area due to fire, have been rescued safely.
Braving the plumes of smoke that are still coming out of the mall, firefighters managed to rescue them all, Jashim Uddin, head of marketing of the shopping mall, told The Daily Star.

“All of them are our own staff and they got trapped on the rooftop when they tried to douse the flame initially,” he said.
Meanwhile, one of them named as Mamunur Rahman, 40, felt sick inhaling smokes when he was brought down by the rescuers, reports our correspondent from the spot.
Jashim, however, claimed none was injured in the fire accident that broke out around 10:40am on the level six of the mall.
“Seven to eight shops at C Block of Level 6 were completely burnt,” he said, adding total losses can be ascertained later on.
Twenty-nine firefighting units are working to bring the situation under control till 5:30pm when this report was filed.
