10 priority development projects full steam ahead
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday told parliament that the implementation of 10 mega projects are going on in full swing as the priority schemes are being monitored by herself.
Of the 10 priority projects, overall progress of Padma Multipurpose Bridge Scheme is 31 percent.
In a scripted reply, the prime minister also said 65 percent work of the approach road at Jajira point and 73 percent of work at Mawa point were completed.
Hasina also said 21 percent work of the main bridge was already completed while the progress of the river training is 18 percent.
ROOPPUR NUCLEAR POWER PLANT
Hasina said the first and second agreements of the project covering feasibility evaluation, environmental impact assessment, engineering survey, technical documentation, first priority design and working documentation were fully completed. A good deal of the work of third agreement has been completed, she added.
1200 MW RAMPAL POWER PLANT
The prime minister said the work for owners engineer, coal consultant appointment, environmental impact assessment clearance, 33/11 KV sub-station have been completed entirely.
"The rest of the work is going on pursuant to the plan,” she added.
MATARBARI COAL FIRED POWER PROJECT
On the progress of Matarbari 1200MW coal-fired ultra super critical power plant, Hasina in a scripted rely said the work for owners engineer appointment, handing over of land and environmental impact assessment has been completed fully.
She said 90 percent work of boundary fencing has been completed while the appointment of adviser to the project is at the final stage.
DHAKA MASS RAPID TRANSIT DEVELOPMENT PROJECT (METRO RAIL)
On the Dhaka mass rapid transit development project (Metro Rail), the prime minister said survey-related activities of the scheme have been completed while the work for eight packages including depot land development, civil and building works in depot is going on according to the plan.
The year 2019 has been fixed for early commissioning of the project, she added.
LNG TERMINAL
Met Ocean survey of the project already started as a term sheet agreement was signed between Astra Oil & Excelerate Energy Consortium of Singapore and Petro Bangla.
Besides, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was inked with Qatar for importing LNG as the project will be completed by 2017.
DEEP-SEA PORT
Hasina said the deep-sea port at Sonadia of Cox’s Bazar will be implemented on a government-to-government basis as investors was not found to implement the work on a public private partnership (PPP) basis.
A ten-member committee, headed by the principal secretary, was formed to evaluate the proposals, and its construction work will start soon…, she added.
The prime minister also said a techno-economic study was carried out by Pacific Consultants International of Japan to construct the deep-sea port.
PAIRA DEEP-SEA PORT
Hasina said a British consultancy company--HR Willingford-- has been appointed for a techno-economic feasibility study and to prepare a master plan for the port.
PADMA RAIL BRIDGE LINK PROJECT
The time frame to implement the project is 2016 to 2022 at an estimated cost of Tk 35,000 crore, said the prime minister.
SINGLE RAILLINE DUELGAZE TRACK
The premier said the project would be completed by 2022 at an estimated cost of Tk 18,000 crore.
BANGABANDHU SATELLITE-1 TO BE LAUNCHED NEXT YEAR
The much-awaited Bangabandhu Satellite-1, the first ever such venture in Bangladesh, will be launched into the space in 2017, Hasina told the House, adding that the construction of the satellite, worth Tk 2,967.95 crore, has already begun.
TRADE AGREEMENTS WITH 10 COUNTRIES
It is under the government’s active consideration to sign 10 bilateral trade agreements with 10 countries to boost up the country’s export, said Hasina.
The countries are Jordan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Albania, South Africa, Russia, Croatia, Chile, Azerbaijan and Czech Republic.
