Some of the trees and plants had fruits everyone could identify, some had fruits that left many puzzled and some had no fruits at all. But they were all there for the tree lovers at the month-long National Tree Fair 2015, which began in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar two weeks ago. This year the fair is being held with the slogan “Let's all plant trees; in plains, on hills and in coastal areas”. Farmers from across the country showed up at the fair with their plants, trees and saplings. Some are grown for fruits, some for their wood and some for their flowers. Different species of mangoes, berries, jack fruits, litchis, oranges and lemons were key attractions. The fair is usually held during the Bangla month of Ashar, the wettest of all months. Visitors say that the prices of the trees, saplings and plants were rather affordable and many were seen leaving the fair with truckloads of trees and plants. Photo: Anisur Rahman
