Child killed in Narsingdi clash
A child was killed and at least five others were shot during a clash between two criminal groups to establish supremacy in Narsingdi town this morning.
Swapan Mia, 12, a pedestrian, died on the spot when he was shot on the head, our Narsingdi correspondent reports quoting KM Abul Kashem, officer-in-charge of Narsingdi Sadar Police Station.
The victim was a factory worker, the OC said.
Supporters of Bhuiyan Sohel and Shafiq group locked into in a gunfight in Chaitalpara area around 11:00am over establishing supremacy in the area, police sources and witnesses said.
The injured people are: Shafiq group’s chief Shafiq, 35, pedestrian Beauty Saha, 33, Swapan Saha, 33, Shawkat, 42, and Shahadat Hossain, 42.
The injured were admitted to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital while Shahadat Hossain and Shawkat were sent to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital as their condition worsened.
A tense situation was prevailing in the area after the gunfight. Additional police forces were seen deployed.
The superintendent of Narsingdi police, Sheikh Rafiqul Islam, visited the site this afternoon.
