Chhayanaut's classical dance festival begins today
A two-day Classical Dance Festival sets off at Chhayanaut today (November 7). For the fourth consecutive year, Chhayanaut is holding the dance festival at its main auditorium. The festival begins at 6:15pm on both days. The aim of the festival is to put together a union of souls between classical dance artistes and dance loving audience.
The festival is set to showcase five forms of classical dance -- Manipuri, Odissi, Bharatanatyam, Kathak and Gaudiya Nritya. Apart from Chhayanaut artistes, noted dance troupes and soloists from and outside Dhaka and Kolkata, India will take part in the festival.
Chhayanaut artistes will set off the festival today. Nritya Pushpanjali (offering in the form of dance) will be the opening act in Manipuri. Artistes, attired in colourful costumes, are set to articulate their devotion to the Creator, gurus and the audience through their performances. General Secretary of Chhayanaut Khairul Anam Shakil will deliver welcome address on the opening day.
On the inaugural day, Chhayanaut artistes, Bimbavati Devi [of Kolkata, India], Sweety Das and Sonia Rashid will present Manipuri dance while Sudeshna Swayamprabha, Pooja Sengupta, Jesika Sharmin Rahman, Arpita Shome, Amit Chowdhury and artistes of Sristi Cultural Centre will perform Bharatnatyam. Rachel Priyanka Perris will showcase Gaudiya Nritya while Tabassum Ahmed and artistes of Katthak Nritya Sampradaye will display Katthak dance.
On the concluding day (November 8), Santana Devi, Farhana Ahmed along with artistes of Bhabna and Nrityam Nrityashilan Kendra will present Manipuri while Belayet Hossain, Shafiq Ahmed, Shubhra Sengupta (with artistes of Chhayanaut), Mumtaz Academy of Dance and Jago Art Centre will display Bharatnatyam. Nrityashree artistes will perform Odissi while Snata Shahrin, Tahnina Islam Jhumi, Monira Parveen Happy and artistes of Nrityanchal will showcase kathak dance at the festival.
