Charges pressed against 14 for attack on Hindus
Charges have been pressed against 14 people in a case for assaulting six Hindus and looting their houses and a shop at Nizpara village Sadar upazila on the night of September 8.
Sub-Inspector Shahjahan Ali, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court, Lalmonirhat, yesterday.
The accused are Lutu Miah, 30, son of Rafiqul Haqaue, Mukul Miah, 30, son of Shamser Ali, Mokhsedul Islam, 25, son of Afzal Hossain, Majed Islam, 22, son of Afzal Miah, Mazidul Islam, 20, son of Asir Uddin, Jewel Islam, 23, son of Sadeque Ali, Enamul Haque, 25, son of late Abul Hossain, Sohag Patwary, 23, son of Altaf Patwary, Babu Miah, 35, son of Asir Uddin, yunus Ali, 25, son of Kasehm Miah, Rezaul Islam, 33, son of late Korban Ali, Imran Hossain, 32, son of Korban Miah, Rana Islam, 25, son of Umed Ali and Amin Miah, 35, son of Azgor Ali.
All of them hail from Nizpara and Chinipara villages under Mahendranagar union in the upazila.
Of them, only Jewel Islam was arrested from Nizpara village on the night of September 11 while the rest are still at large, police said.
A gang, led by Lutu Miah swooped on two houses and a shop of Rajendra Nath and Ranjit Chandra at Nizpara village on the night of September 8 as they refused to pay them Tk 50,000 illegal toll.
The gang beat up Rajendra Nath and Ranjit Chandra and four others of their families and vandalised and looted their houses and a shop.
Rajendra Nath lodged a case with Sadar Police Station the following day, accusing 16 named and 10 to 15 unnamed people. After investigation, police pressed charges against 14 of the FIR-named accused.
