Charges against Fakhrul, Moudud, 39 others accepted
A Dhaka Court today accepted the charges against BNP leaders Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Moudud Ahmed, Mirza Abbas and 38 others for assaulting police and torching vehicles last year.
After scrutinising the case dockets, Metropolitan Magistrate SM Ashiqur Rahman passed the order.
Detective Branch of police submitted two separate charge sheets to Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court, Dhaka yesterday in connection with the case
One of the charge sheets accuses the BNP leaders of assaulting police, torching vehicles and preventing them from discharging their duties and the other for hurling cocktails at the police on March 2 last year.
The court today sent the second case to the chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka for next course of action as it is empowered to conduct the trial of the cocktail blast case.
Police filed the case against the 41 BNP men and 1,200 unknown persons accusing them of obstructing law enforcers from discharging their duties, attempting to kill them and hurling crude bombs to create panic in front of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College in Bailey Road of the capital on March 2, 2013 during the BNP-led opposition's street agitation programme.
BNP leaders including acting secretary general Fakhrul, standing committee members Moudud and Abbas were sent to jail on April 7 last year in connection with the case.
