Change to avert confusion: Ershad
Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad today said he removed ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader from the post of JP’s secretary general to avert confusion about division in the party.
Ershad added he brought the change as many people inside and outside the JP think that confusion and division remain between him and his wife Raushan Ershad, a senior presidium member of the party.
“Therefore, I made the decision of appointing Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu as Jatiya Party secretary general in place of Hawlader in a bid to reduce confusion among the party leaders and activists. From now everyone will think that we are united,” Ershad said while talking to reporters at his President Park residence at city’s Baridhara.
Ershad, known as the unpredictable character in Bangladesh politics, all on a sudden yesterday removed Hawlader and appointed Bablu as JP’s second-in-command.
Without holding any meeting of the party, Ershad unilaterally took the decision and informed media through a press release, party sources said.
Ershad denied getting any pressure to bring change in his party’s secretary general post.
Bablu is known as loyal to Raushan, leader of the opposition in parliament who is actually running the party at present, party sources said.
Bablu, who has good relation with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, convinced Raushan to participate in the January 5 controversial and one-sided national election violating Ershad’s decision to boycott the election.
Party sources said there had been conflicts between Raushan and Hawlader centering taking part in the January 5 election.
Ruhul, loyal to Ershad was against taking part in the election.
