Celebrating life under the full moon
Jahangirnagar University is a welcome hub of cultural events. On February 13, a day before Valentine's Day, “Standard Chartered-The Daily Star Celebrating Life” held a night-long classical music event at the idyllic university campus. The event started at 6pm and concluded at 3:30am. While many doubting Thomas' had wondered how to keep the young audience so late into the night--or rather the morning--at a classical music event, the perfect combination of Selim Al Deen Muktomoncho and the full moon kept many glued to their seats until the end of the programme.
Many artistes mesmerised the audience with various presentations of raga music. Noted media personality Shampa Reza performed a few 'Bandish', as a tribute to her music guru, Pandit Dhrubo Tara Joshi, on his 100 birthday. Shampa, a well-known TV personality, surprised many with her vocals. Her performance was followed by noted classical vocalist Asit Dey, who performed 'Raga Puria
Dhaneshree' at the event. Ahsan Zulkar Nain rendered 'Raga Tori'. Noted flautist Mortuza Kabir Murad performed 'Raga Yaman' on the flute. Supria Das performed Raga 'Nand'. Renowned vocalist Dr. Rezwan Ali performed Raga 'Malkauns' at the soiree.
Sheuli Bhattacharya performed Raga 'Behag' on her violin. Dr. Nashid Kamal performed Raga 'Jog', Nishit Dey performed Raga 'Jogkauns' on sitar. Bizon Chandra Mistry wrapped up the event with the rendition of Raga 'Raam Keli' at the programme.
It was another successful event of Celebrating Life. Many other classical music soirees are to follow in the days to come, with pristine melody and grandeur.
