Capt Moin elected DG of IMSO
Bangladesh Navy Captain Moin Uddin Ahmed has been elected director general of International Mobile Satellite Organisation (IMSO).
A press release issued by the Bangladesh High Commission in London said Captain Moin beat candidates of France, Germany, Italy and Romania to have been elected in the polls that took place in London.
Bangladesh’s win in the IMSO follows significant victories in other international forums, what reflects the international community’s trust on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government, the press release said.
IMSO is an inter-governmental organization whose primary purpose is the oversight of certain public satellite safety and security communication services provided by mobile satellite communication systems.
This was the first time Bangladesh won the post in IMSO what is being deemed as a significant diplomatic success, according to the press release.
Earlier, Bangladesh government had nominated Captain Moin Uddin Ahmed to race in the polls of IMSO, an institution constituting of 99 international members.
Capt Moin joined Bangladesh Navy in 1976. He obtained a Certificate Of Competency As Master Mariner from South Marine and Technical College in 1985 and Master of Science from World Marine University in 1989.
He is currently a Senior Technical Officer in IMO Maritime Safety Division, the press release said.
Recently, Bangladeshi candidates won in Convention to Eliminate All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), Commonwealth Parliament Association (CPA), Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Human rights Council (HRC) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Council.
