9th Foundation Day of Daffodil International University observed with gala programme

Daffodil International University (DIU) observed its 9th Foundation Day with a gala programme on February 24, 2010 at the Kalabagan playground. The programme included grand rally, inaugural ceremony, discussion, prize-giving ceremony, sports, cultural programme and fashion show. 'Positive Bangladesh' a campaign to motivate students towards having a positive outlook was also conducted.
The members of DIU Prothom Alo Bondhushava arranged a voting campaign for the Sundarbans as one of the seventh natural wonders of the world. UGC Chairman Prof. Dr. Nazrul Islam , Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, BOG, Daffodil International University, Prof. Dr. Sakhawat Ali Khan, Adviser, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication voted for the Sundarbans at the campaign.
The members collected more than 1000 votes through this campaign. Mohammad Hassan and Mohammad Hossain from the Department of Textile Engineering of the University were given special reception for winning the gold medal in the South Asian Games. Students who obtained distinction marks in their final semester were also awarded in the foundation anniversary.
Nurul Islam Nahid, M.P, Honorable Minister, Ministry of Education inaugurated the programme hoisting the National Flag as the chief guest while Professor Nazrul Islam, Chairman, University Grants Commission was present as special guest.
Presided over by Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Governors, Daffodil International University the programme was addressed among others by Professor Dr. Aminul Islam, Vice-Chancellor, Professor M Sahjahan Mina, Adviser, Faculty of Business and Economics, Professor Dr. Lutfor Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Science and Information Communication Technology, Professor Dr. Sushil Kumar Das, Dean, Faculty of Humanity and Social Science and Dr. Md. Fokhray Hossain, Registrar, Daffodil International University.
Defining New Angles: The First Photography Exhibition at IUT

“It's not the tools but the eyes and imagination of the photographer that creates an image. ” - following this proverb students of Islamic University of Technology (IUT) arranged the first Photography Exhibition on 31 January. The event was inaugurated by Mirzal Zainuddin, Ambassador of Indonesia and Prof. Dr. Imtiaz Hussain Honorable Vice Chancellor of IUT. The picturesque beauty of IUT has invoked many students to become photographers and this event has inspired their budding dream to be fulfilled. The event was organized by a group of photography enthusiasts of IUT moderated by Mohammed Naser, Asst.Prof.of EEE Department and Habib Chowdhury, Lecturer of MCE Department. Dr.Zahid Hossain, Head of Social & Cultural Affairs Committee organised the entire show.
The exhibition consisted of sixty spectacular photos selected from hundreds submitted by IUTians. On the last day of the five-day long exhibition, the judges from Pathshala selected top 3 photographs and the respective judges awarded the winners. The workshop was held at IUT auditorium where the IUTians had an open discussion session with the judges during which they exchanged views and experiences from the professionals.
Lifetime fitness is something everyone can do!
The People United Fun Run, a non-competitive 5k run/walk, took place on February 11, 2010 at the International School Dhaka (ISD), where all within the ISD community participated. The purpose of the event was to promote health and physical fitness and raise funds for the Kajol Project a charity initiative that supports the less fortunate children.
The school-wide event started at 8:30 am at ISD in Bashundhara and after winding through the neighbourhood finished back at the school. After the run, students and staff members enjoyed healthy food, drinks and participated in an exciting watermelon eating contest.
Southeast University Launches M A in English

The Department of English, Southeast University launched its much-awaited Masters' Programme from Spring Semester 2010.
A colourful ceremony was arranged at the Seminar Hall, which was presided over by the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Dr. M. Shamsher Ali, Farhana Rahman Disha of the first batch of MA Programme expressed her feelings of joy on behalf of her batchmates. Khandakar Shahan Alam, Registrar, SEU warmly greeted the first batch of M A students and assured them of every support they needed. Prof. M.A. Baten Mian reminisced the long years of close relationship he had with the students.
Prof. Mirza T.H. Beg, Chairman of the Department, also greeted the first batch of MA students who, he said, made history as pioneers. He appreciated their sincerity and sense of belongingness to the Department, which has been their second home for the last four years. He wished them a happier stay here for one more year. He thanked everyone - the senior students of the Honours Programme, the faculty members and others who endeavoured to make this launching ceremony a success.
Shahjalal University Day Observed

The Shahjalal University Day, the 19th Founding Anniversary of the institution was observed amidst festivity recently. The students, teachers as well as the officials with colourful festoons gathered at the registrar building premises in the morning to begin the day's programme. Vice-Chancellor Professor Saleh Uddin Ahmed formally hoisted the national flag marking the inauguration of the 19th Founding Anniversary. Then a procession was taken out in observance of the Sust Day as well as Pahela Falgun. The teachers and students paraded the campus streets before joining the 'Ananda Samabesh' at the Volleyball ground. The Vice chancellor thanked all and said that the university has experienced a lot during its 19 year journey. He also sought cooperation from all concerned, including students and teachers for making Sust a modern and model university of the country.
Professor Reza-e-Karim Khondaker, Dr. Mohammad Younus, Professor Sushanta Kumar Das, Proctor Professor Saiful Islam and Registrar Ishraqul Hossain also spoke among others while deans, professors and other senior teachers and officials attended the programme. Besides, different organizations arranged cultural programmes to celebrate the Sust day as well as the Basanta Uthsab in a befitting manner.
Alongside, the Sust Photographic Association organized a week-long photography exhibition.

The starting of Dhrubotara
"Dhrubotara”, the first techno- cultural club of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU), has started its journey on the Valentines Day on 15 February 2010, with the motto of the club:
“ Songoskritir paal cheye
Projuktir haal beye
Sobhhotar bondore, gathbo nongor”
In the function, the members of this club had done justice with this motto by mixing culture and technology together in one of its presentations, a beautiful play. It also staged desi songs, dance and poetry as well. As more than eight teachers of different departments of this university have given their kind support to Dhrubotara, we wish its safe and successful journey in the ocean of humanity.
Exciting annual sports event in MBSTU
Last 14th February was the most cheerful day because the annual sports program was held that day. Honorable minister MR. Latif Siddiqui was invited as the chief guest, but unfortunately he couldn't attend the program. In his absence, our honorable Vice Chancellor MR. M. Nurul Islam inaugurated the main events of the programme. All the teachers of various departments and invited guests enjoyed the day-long event.
The program included different types of interesting sports such as, high jump, long jump, athletics in 4 categories. As I am the student of Criminology and Police Science (CPS) department, I am happy to report that our department CPS has become the champion collecting highest number of prizes, and Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (BGE) has secured the 2nd position. Lecturers and professors of different departments who took part in the event also won prizes and took part in various fun activities with the students.
Free Seminar on Higher Education at the British Council

A free seminar on “International Foundation Year” is going to be held on Wednesday, 10th March 2010 at the British Council Auditorium (5, Fuller Road, Dhaka) at 4:00pm. The keynote speaker of the seminar is, Ms. Suzanne Bartnett, the Program Manager of NCC Education UK. She will highlight in the presentation the importance of studying the International Foundation Year and necessity of English Language skills in higher education abroad. The interested students who want to study abroad or the faculty of English Language Teaching are highly encouraged to attend the seminar.

Jahangirnagar Theater (JT) organised a week-long drama carnival

Jahangirnagar Theater (JT) organised a week-long drama carnival to celebrate its 3 decades of founding at amphitheater, Jahangirnagar University (JU) from February 23 to March 01, 2010. On the occasion, on the first day marking the festival a colorful procession was brought out on the campus. The members of the JT took part in the procession in a festive mood. Later, Vice Chancellor of the University Dr. Sharif Enamul Kabir inaugurated the festival as the chief guest. Eminent Drama and Media personalities of the country graced the festival as special guests. The festival featured staging of 5 dramas of different production and direction, qualifiers reception and reunion. In the festival Ramendu Majumder and Mohammad Rafique were awarded qualifiers reception for their outstanding contribution to the drama and poetry sector of the country respectively. A large number of people including students enjoyed the festival.
