IT Festival'09 celebrated at
HSTU with enthusiasm

HAJEE Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU) of Dinajpur celebrated three daylong IT (Information Technology) Festivals'09 from 9-11 May. All students and faculty members were highly enthused and looked forward to the festival featuring different IT events. Students from colleges and schools also participated in the event.

The faculty of CSE (Computer Science and Engineering) of HSTU organised the IT Festival on the university campus while BDJobs gave all-out support to the programme. The festival included a Programming Contest, Software Exhibition, Seminar on Digital Bangladesh, Workshop on Open Sources/Out sources, IT Quiz, Gaming Contest, a Film Festival and a Cultural programme. The event witnessed the presence of renowned IT personalities of the country.

Vice Chancellor of HSTU Professor Md Afzal Hossain formally inaugurated the 'IT Festival'09' as the Chief Guest. Professor of Department of CSE, Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET) Dr M Kaykobad, Md. Munir Hossain of GSBDOSN and Assistant Editor of Daily Prothom Alo Pallab Mohaimen attended the inauguration ceremony as special guests. Dean of Faculty of CSE Professor Md Ruhul Amin presided over the session.

Speakers at the inaugural session reiterated that the IT sector of the country has been in negligence and appealed for coordinated support of all walks of people including students, teachers and IT professionals. Prior to the inaugural session, a colourful festival procession was brought out on the campus led by Professor Dr. M Afzal Hossain. The rally paraded different pavements of the campus with slogans to build a Digital Bangladesh.

At least 30 local and national hardware and software vendors demonstrated their products in the IT Fair. The three daylong Fair drew huge crowds. About 23 teams of HSTU participated in the Software Programming Contest. Renowned IT personality of Bangladesh Md. Mostafa Jabbar attended the seminar on Digital Bangladesh as the keynote speaker. Marking the festival, the students of CSE Faculty published wall magazines featuring various articles, poems and jokes on IT.

Azizul Makshud, Shamim Hossain and Shekhar Majumder stood first in the Hardware Contest for their Monitor Data-Switch Project. The X-Factor project earned Zahid first prize in the Software contest. Kazi Sayed grabbed the first prize for developing Multimedia Software. The three daylong festival finally concluded with a cultural programme performed by the HSTU students.
