Seminar on Impact of Climate Change on Agriculture at BAU
The Bureau of Socio Economic Research and Training organized a daylong seminar entitled 'Impact of Climate Change on Agriculture' at the Faculty of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology (FAERS), Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU). The seminar was presided over by Professor Dr. Sankar Kumar Raha, Dean (in-Charge),FAERS while Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M. A. Sattar Mandal was the chief guest. Economist of international repute Professor Dr. Chamhuri Siwar of National University of Malaysia spoke on the occasion. Professor Dr. M. A. Halim Khan, Professor Dr. M.A. Bahadur Meah, Professor Dr. M. Alimul Islam, Professor Dr. M. Harun-Ar Rashid, Md. Raisuddin Mian and other researchers were the discussants at the Seminar. Vice Chancellor Dr. Sattar formally presented a BAU crest to Professor Dr. Chamhuri. BAU Registrar Md. Nazibur Rahman and Public Relations Director Diwan Rashidul Hassan were present at the meeting.
Collaboration between BRACU & Rikkyo University,Japan

A general agreement was signed on 30 December between BRAC University and Rikkyo University, Japan. Professor Jamilur Reza Choudhury, VC, BRACU signed on behalf of BRACU. The Rikkyo University team had a meeting with Mr. Fazle Hasan Abed, Chairperson, BRAC and President, BRACU. Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, Pro-VC and Mr.Mahmood Hasan, Registrar, BRACU were present at the agreement ceremony.
The areas of cooperation will include, subject to mutual consent, any program or activity desirable and feasible to further academic interaction between the two institutions. Such areas of cooperation might include: exchange of faculty and research personnel, exchange of undergraduate and graduate students and exchange of publications, materials and information.
DIU celebrates 7th founding anniversary

Daffodil International University (DIU) celebrated its 7th founding anniversary through daylong festivities on 24 January 2009. More than six thousand students, guests, teachers and officials gathered at Dhanmondi Women Sports Complex to celebrate the day. The day's programme included an inaugural ceremony, fun events, Corporate Social Responsibility campaign, raffle draw, cultural function etc. Professor Dr. Alauddin Ahmed, Political Advisor to the Honorable Prime Minister, addressed the inaugural ceremony as chief guest while Professor Dr. Aminul Islam, Vice-Chancellor of DIU, presided over the programme.
The programme started with a colourful rally. Students of various departments marched towards the programme venue carrying banners, placards and motifs, and wearing special costumes, which reflected the themes of their respective departments. Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, MP, was the Special Guest at the occasion. The Chairman of Governing Body of DIU, Md. Sabur Khan was also present at the event
ULAB holds Innovative Freshers' Orientation
Continuing its mission of Active Learning for its students, the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) held a unique Freshers' orientation program on 2 February 2009. The new orientation was based on international models, which focus on the needs of the students. Juditha Ohlmacher, Assistant Professor in Media Studies and Journalism, was one of the main organizers. Students were broken into small groups, each one led by faculty members and senior students. Issues of identity and leadership were explored, while ULAB's mission and values were imparted in an active and enjoyable way. The faculty themselves underwent training to understand the human dynamics involved in the activities. Mustafiz ur Raman Shahin, ULAB's Trainer for Physical Movement and Choreography, conducted the training session. The response from the faculty and students was tremendous. This year's theme song, Tagore's "Mora shotter o pore mon aji koribo shomor pon," was sung by ULAB's Sangskriti Sangsad. Vice Chancellor Rafiqul Islam spoke at the orientation ceremony. ULAB's Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Imran Rahman and Director, Academic Affairs Dr. Kazi Anis Ahmed also welcomed the students, asking them to take learning seriously.
