First IoT lab launched in Bangladesh
DataSoft Systems Bangladesh Limited officially launched its state-of-the-art 'Internet of Things (IoT) laboratory today.
State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak inaugurated the state-of-the-art IoT lab at a function organised by DataSoft at Shyamoli in Dhaka.
Around 300 students will take degrees on the IoT system in a four-month course.
In the event, the state minister also declared DataSoft as the country's new private hi-tech park that will give the company a big boost for flourishing its innovation.
"In principle I accept DataSoft's request to allow them to run as a private hi-tech park, but they would have to apply officially to complete the formalities," said Palak.

US Ambassador to Dhaka Marcia Stephens Bloom Bernicat and industry affair experts were also present in the occasion.
Palak also allocated 20,000 square feet space in the Bangabandhu Hi-tech city to DataSoft.
Through this initiative, Bangladesh can now brand itself as an IoT hub as the country is getting 300 specialised engineers from it, he said.
Speaking at the function, Bernicat said the internet economy is increasing everyday and IoT gives a boost to it.
Managing Director of DataSoft Mahboob Zaman said they can contribute to the digitisation of the country and for that they are only asking for policy support from the government.
"We want to change the scenario of the ICT sector of Bangladesh, and the government can prefer public-private partnership model to this end," said Zaman, who is also a former president of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (Basis).
University of Asia Pacific's Vice Chancellor Prof Jamilur Reza Choudhury, Basis President Mustafa Jabbar, Bangladesh Computer Council Executive Director SM Ashraful Islam and American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh President Aftab-ul-Islam, among others, spoke at the function.
As a private hi-tech park, DataSoft will get some special tax benefit with uninterrupted power supply. At the same time the company will get a huge branding for international business.
DataSoft, a renowned Bangladeshi software company which started in 1998, began its first course on IoT from November 1 and already 30 students from different public and private universities are taking lessons and trying to find out solutions to different problems of Dhaka city.
Under this course, students will try to find out solutions about different problems of Dhaka like traffic congestion and garbage management.
Professor Michael Wang, who formulated the course curriculum of IoT in USA's Columbia University, is coordinating the curriculum of Datasoft's course.
The lab, a result of collaboration between the US, Japan and Bangladesh, is co-sponsored by the Hi-tech Park Authority and ICT division.
