EATL Prothom Alo Apps contest 2016 kicks off
The EATL Prothom Alo Apps Contest 2016 – Season 4 just began for the fourth time on the 24th May 2016, Tuesday at The Westin Dhaka and the program was officially launched by the Chief Guest, the Hon'ble Education Minister Mr. Nurul Islam Nahid, MP. As Special Guests, Mr. Zunaid Ahmed Palak, MP, the Hon'ble State Minister, ICT Division, Mr. Qimiao Fan, the Country Director of World Bank for Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, South Asia and H.E. Benoît-Pierre Laramée, the High Commissioner of the High Commission of Canada in Bangladesh were present in the event.
The World Bank is the Lead Sponsor of this platform with the association of Canadian Government wherein Prothom Alo is the Title Partner, ICT Division is the Strategic Partner, Grameenphone Limited is the Telecom Partner and Channel i is the Media Partner with the Organizer EATL.
The chief guest Mr. Nurul Islam Nahid, MP said, "This prestigious contest is encouraging the younger generations and brightest talents in the country to work in the ICT sector. They are creating own innovative ideas, developing mobile applications for the smart phones for easy and smooth use by the nation. We can consider this program as the gateway to enter into world ICT market". He added, we want the new generation to be skilled in ICT. For this we made ICT compulsory in our primary and secondary education.
As special guest, Mr. Zunaid Ahmed Palak, MP said, "Bangladesh can be a big apps market for 16 billion people. This type of contest enable and encourage the younger generation to develop apps".
In this launching ceremony, as special guest, Mr. Mr. Qimiao Fan, the Country Director of World Bank said, "the World Bank is working in development of education and ICT in Bangladesh. This will continue for future".
H.E. Benoît-Pierre Laramée said, Canada is specially helping the young people to develop mobile apps. Canada helped to develop an app named 'Bus Locator' for Bangladesh".
Mr. Matiur Rahman, the Editor of Prothom Alo said, "we will try to add the South Asian countries in this competition in future".
Mr. M A Mubin Khan, the Manging Director of EATL said, "We can bring changes in our economy by developing apps. It will of course keep branding Bangladesh in future".
The welcome speech was given by Dr. Rajesh Palit, CTA of EATL and the program was mentored by Ms. Puja Sengupta.
Last 3 consecutive years EATL and Prothom Alo jointly organized the 'EATL Prothom Alo Apps Contest', which has become the nation's single largest apps development contest. This is the fourth time the platform is organizing this contest.
This contest will continue and step by step will last for 7 months. The grand prize money is BDT 10 lakh with business entrepreneurship offer for the winning team. There is a trophy to given to the winner as well which is a new addition in this contest. The trophy was opened publicly in the launching ceremony.
This year contest has 3 different sectors where few categories are merged and winner will be declared from each category. In each category top prize money is BDT 2 lakh and 2nd, 3rd team will get smartphones. BDT 1 lakh on prize money for one Windows and iOS platform.
The contest is open for Android, iOS and Windows platforms, there are 12 prizes with BDT. 18 lakh cash prizes, smartphones and business entrepreneurship offers to start own business for the winning team members.
Students from different universities can submit their ideas in team by 31st August 2016. After that step by step the apps will be developed. They can submit their ideas and apps in Agriculture & livestock, Education, Financial Management, Business, Productivity, Tools, Health & Livings, News & Entertainment, Family & Social Welfare, Blogging, ePurchase, Game etc. they can submit their ideas through www.eatlapps.com/contest 2016 by 31st August 2016.
