Digital World returns next week
The idea of Digital Bangladesh has come a long way since Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made it a mandate of the government to invest in the IT sector and take the country forward into the 21st century. A big part of that push comes from regular expositions and conferences based in the IT sector, and the largest of the bunch is Digital World 2016. Scheduled to be held from the 19th to 21st October 2016 at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB), Digital World 2016 promises to bring together the world of technology and startups together in spectacular fashion for the fourth instalment of the annual event.
In a press conference on the 16th of October, chief guest Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu praised the Prime Minister for her efforts in ensuring the dream of a Digital Bangladesh is realised, and mentioned the remarkable progress of the IT sector in earning 700 Million USD currently, up from 26 Million USD just 7 years ago. ICT State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak also spoke about how much the IT industry in Bangladesh has progressed, and extolled the view that the Digital World exposition has so far played a stellar role in encouraging growth of the local technology sector, and will continue to do so.
On the menu for this year are sub-themes of e-Commerce, e-Governance, Mobile Innovation, Software Showcasing, and Startup Zone.
e-Commerce in Bangladesh has become an important tool for small and large businesses, not only to sell to customers, but also to engage them. This year the e-Commerce expo will have 11 stalls, 7 mini pavilions and 4 pavilions.
The e-Governance expo mainly focuses on the prompt and accelerated transformation of Bangladesh, from being a traditional government to a digital one in a convenient, efficient and transparent manner. This year, more than 40 stalls will exhibit various e-Services provided by the government.
The smartphone market has also prompted changes in the government's policy towards e-learning as well as played an important role in the financial sector through mobile banking, so as a result, Mobile Innovation will have its fair share of the spotlight in the upcoming Digital World event.
The Startup Zone will provide a platform for start-ups to display their products and services and grab a hold onto the market. This year the government has taken initiative to help start-ups to flourish and understand the market in order to succeed. Moreover, it will be a platform where start-ups will get the opportunity to expand their business by asking for funds from the government.
All in all, Digital World 2016 promises to be the tech event of the year, highlighting achievements, talking progress and paving the path to a digital tomorrow.
