Robi fined Tk 2.5 lakh for deceiving subscriber
Mobile phone operator Robi has paid a Tk 2.5 lakh fine for deceiving a subscriber in Khulna.
The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection's regional office in Khulna imposed the fine on February 28 following a hearing in presence of both parties.
The consumer protection watchdog gave five days to make the payment. The user received Tk 62,500 as the rules stipulate that the complainant gets 25 percent of the penalty, according to a statement.
Robi had tried to avoid paying the fine and appealed to the directorate's head office several times.
The subscriber, Anisul Hai, filed the complaint against Robi on February 13 for an offer of Airtel, which has merged with Robi.
The offer was 1.5 GB of data at 28 days' validity on a recharge of Tk 98. However, Hai got 1GB of data with five days' validity.
The directorate earlier fined Robi, Grameenphone and Banglalink for deceiving customers.
