Internet monitoring beefed up to thwart cyber attacks: Minister
The government boosted its cyber security system through monitoring to thwart possible cyber attacks, State Minister for Telecommunication Tarana Halim today said.
"Had we failed to detect the cyber attack threats, more incidents like Nasirnagar attack might occur," she said at a programme at Bangladesh Postal Office in Dhaka today.
"The cyber security system has been enhanced after Hindu minority people were attacked in Nasirnagar of Brahmanbaria over a Facebook post that allegedly hurt religious sentiments," Tarana said.
The government proactively took initiatives for maintaining cyber security, she added.
"We are likely to take a decision today on installing CCTV cameras at every cyber cafe throughout the country," the state minister said.
"We will be able to detect more cyber attack threats, if the decision is taken," she added.
A group of religious zealots on October 30 carried out a synchronised attack on the Hindus in Nasirnagar upazila, vandalising around 100 homes and at least five temples and looting valuables from the houses. The attackers also beat up over 100 people of the minority community there.
