A biannual housing fair that ended yesterday registered 70.48 percent more sales than the previous edition in June last year.
The fair was scheduled for December last year, but it was postponed to March this year for political unrest.
Realtors sold flats and plots worth Tk 387 crore at the five-day housing exhibition in Dhaka organised by Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB).
Sales at the 2013 summer fair totalled around Tk 227 crore, according to the association.
“An increased number of customers placed new bookings this fair mainly due to the improved political environment after the national elections,” M Wahiduzzaman, general secretary of REHAB, told The Daily Star.
More than 12,000 people visited the fair at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka, which displayed projects from 141 members of the association. Real estate is a growing sector with annual turnover worth Tk 24,000 crore. More than 1,200 REHAB members build 15,000 apartments a year on average, according to industry insiders.
