No scope to cut VAT, excise duty: Muhith
Finance Minister AMA Muhith today reiterated that the government has no plan to reduce Value Added Tax (VAT) and excise duty on bank deposits.
“There’s no scope to reduce it,” he said while responding to reporters’ queries after a programme at Madan Mohan College in Sylhet city.
He, however, said, the issue will be discussed in the parliament and the House will decide it.
Muhith drew huge criticism from different quarters for imposing excise duty on bank deposits and 15 percent uniform VAT in the proposed budget for fiscal 2017-’18.
