Govt to formulate Nat’l Governance Assessment Framework
The government is going to formulate a National Governance Assessment Framework to encourage good governance in the public sector, an official of the Prime Minister’s Office said today.
Md Kamrul Hasan, deputy director of the Governance Innovation Unit in the PMO, said the framework will be prepared in consultation with the government officials, civil society and academicians.
“The initiative will work to ensure good governance,” Hasan told a dialogue on the SDG 16 (Sustainable Development Goals) in the Bangladesh Context: Peace and Security, Human Rights and Governance, held at Brac Centre Inn.
His disclosure came after most of the speakers expressed their disappointment about rising corruption and governance crisis, which will hamper implementation of the SDGs.
The dialogue was organised by the “Citizen’s Platform for SDGs, Bangladesh”, an initiative that includes more than 30 civil society organisations that aim to contribute to the delivery of the SDGs adopted by the United Nations under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) is acting as the Secretariat of the Platform.
AHM Mustafa Kamal, planning minister, spoke as chief guest at the dialogue. Dr Shamsul Alam, member, planning commission, was special guest.
Syed Manzur Elahi, former advisor to the caretaker government and chairman of Apex Group, Khushi Kabir, coordinator, Nijera Kori, and Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman, former advisor to the caretaker government and executive chairman of Power and Participation Research Centre spoke as distinguished discussants.
Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya, convenor, Citizen’s Platform for SDGs, Bangladesh gave the introductory remarks to the dialogue. Earlier, Towfiqul Islam Khan, research fellow of CPD made a presentation to initiate the discussion.
