Credit disbursement for women entrepreneurs grew 85.40 percent during 2010-2013 mainly due to the simplification of loan conditions, Bangladesh Bank said in a statement yesterday.
Banks and non-bank financial institutions disbursed a total of Tk 3,346.55 crore to 41,695 women entrepreneurs in 2013, according to the central bank. They gave away Tk 1,804.98 crore to 13,831 entrepreneurs in 2010.
The BB has already instructed all banks and non-bank financial institutions to provide women entrepreneurs with collateral-free loans up to a certain limit at low interest rates.
Women entrepreneurs are also receiving loans from the central bank's refinancing scheme on a priority basis, BB Executive Director Nirmal Chandra Bhakta said in a press briefing yesterday.
The central bank called the press briefing to announce the schedule of a daylong “women entrepreneurs' conference and product display” to be held on Thursday to encourage women to borrow more from the financial institutions.
The BB will organise the conference and the fair in association with CARE Bangladesh, Japan International Cooperation Agency and Standard Chartered Bank at Ruposhi Bangla Hotel in the city.
More than 1,000 women entrepreneurs, who took loans from different banks and financial institutions, and chiefs of all leading chambers and associations are expected to attend the conference.
BB Governor Atiur Rahman is scheduled to inaugurate the conference.
The conference will comprise two panel discussions on “women in business networking and organisation” and “responsibility of different stakeholders in women SME development”.
