Bus driver gets 3yr jail for killing jaywalker
A Dhaka court today handed three years of rigorous jail term as punishment for a reckless bus driver who killed a pedestrian in Dhaka back in February 2010.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Bikash Kumar Saha handed down the punishment for Md Jamal Hossain, 40, a driver of Shohag Paribahan, after hearing this morning.
The driver has also been fined a sum of Tk 7,000.
On February 15, 2010, the driver ran over Monowar Hossain, 65, a former general manager of Bangladesh Textile Mills Corporation (BTMC), on Dhaka’s Manik Mia Avenue.
Victim’s younger brother Md Momazzad filed a murder case with Sher-e-Bangla Police Station on that day.
Recently, the government reinstated seven years of jail term as the highest punishment for reckless drivers.
