Bus crushes 4 on Dhaka footpath
Four pedestrians were killed and at least 10 others were injured as a bus ran over them on airport road in the capital this morning.
Bilkis Begum, 35, Tajuddin Ahmed , 42 and Sabur Khan 29 died on the spot while Abdul Quddus Chowdhury, 55, succumbed to his wounds on his way to a hospital around 11:30am, Shafiqul Islam, sub-inspector (SI) of Airport Police Station told The Daily Star.
Police seized the bus but its driver managed to flee from the spot, the SI said.
The bodies have been sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, he said.
The Abdullapur-bound bus of Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan from Mirpur crashed on the footpath near the intersection in front of the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 10:30am, Officer-in-Charge the police station Md Shah Alam said.
The driver of the bus lost control over the steering, OC added.
A witness, Md Pervez also a hawker, told our correspondent that the bus first dashed a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and lost its control and then crashing over the roadside footpath leaving the three people dead and many others injured.
The bus was speeding about 60-70 kilometres even after losing control over the steering, said another witness, a taxi cab driver Shariful Islam.
