Burdwan blast key accused escapes
A key accused in the Burdwan blast case today gave the Indian police the slip in Dhubri district of Assam state when an operation was launched to arrest him.
Sahanur Alam, a resident of Assam, fled on receiving information about a police team was on crackdown at Fakiraganj to apprehend him around 2:30pm, Dhubri district superintendent of police MN Sarma told the media, reports our correspondent from New Delhi.
The operation to catch Shahanur Alam was been launched around three days ago following a tip-off that Sahanur was hiding in the remote riverine area.
The area from where he fled has borders with Bangladesh and a search was launched to trace him.
Indian Border Security Force (BSF) was alerted about the possibility of Sahanur Alam, alias Doctor, escaping towards Bangladesh, Sarma said.
However, two of his accomplices, his relatives, were arrested, Sarma said adding they were identified as Abdul Nur and Sahanur Ali. Alam had taken shelter in their house. The country’s National Investigation Agency (NIA), which is investigating the Burdwan blast, has announced Rs 5 lakh reward to anyone for providing information leading to Sahanur Alam's arrest.

NIA has so far searched his house three times in Barpeta district and seized some documents, coins of Arab countries and bank passbooks.
Sahanur Alam's wife Sujana Begum was arrested on November 6 and is in police custody now.
