BSF kills Bangladeshi in Chapainawabganj frontier
Indian Border Security Force (BSF) members shot dead a Bangladeshi youth at Jaminpur frontier of in Chapainawabganj early today.
Mohammad Soleman, 25, son of Ejabul Haque was a resident of Shibganj upazila in the district, reports our Chapainawabganj correspondent.
The Bangladeshi was shot dead 100 metres away from Jaminpur frontier near pillar 179 around 4:00am, the correspondent said quoting Lt Col Zafar Sheikh Zafar Sheikh Mohammad Bazlul Haque, commanding officer Border Guard Bangladesh 9th battalion there.
“Some Bangladeshis trespassed into Indian territory,” he said. “BSF jawans of Churi Anantapur camp under Malda battalion opened fired on them. Soleman received several bullets on his belly and died on the spot,” the BGB commanding officer said.
“Others managed to flee. They brought back the body of Soleman. Police recovered the body and sent it to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital for autopsy,” the BGB official added.
BGB condemned the killing at the border and issued a protest note in this regard to their Indian counterpart, according to the official.
