BSF kills Bangladeshi at Meherpur frontier
The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) last night gunned down a Bangladeshi citizen on the frontier in Mujibnagar upazila of Meherpur.
The deceased, Abdul Khaleq, 30, hailed from Majhpara village in Mujibnagar upazila, Nayak Subedar Safiqul Islam of Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) camp in Mujibnagar told our Kushtia correspondent.
According to Islam, Indian troops from Battalion-119 at Chapra of Nadia district in Paschimbanga opened fire around 11:30pm when Khaleq along with some other cattle traders was passing by pillar No. 107 on the Majhpara border.
While on no man's land, Khaleq received a bullet, he added.
Other Bangladeshi cattle traders managed to flee.
Severely injured, Khaleq was whisked off to Meherpur General Hospital where doctors declared him dead, according to the BGB official.
The two sides later sat in a flag meeting near the border over the issue.
