BRITISH COUNCIL Viqarunnisa Inter School and College Language Festival
Viqarunnisa English Language Club (VELC) in collaboration with British Council organised the 2nd Inter School and College Language Festival 2014. Carrying the motto “Liberty without learning is in peril and learning without liberty is in vain”, the event was held from 21st-23rd March, 2014 at the Viqarunnisa Noon School and College auditorium. The festival's key purpose was to eliminate the fear of the English language among students and at the same time uphold the importance and significance of our mother tongue.
The chief guest of the opening ceremony was Professor Fahima Khatun, Director General, Secondary and Higher Studies Directorate Syeda Sofia Hossain, the former Head of Department of English in VNSC; Roksana Shamim, the former Head of the Department of Bangla in VNSC and Md Shafiqul Islam Tushar, DGM, Brand Marketing, Akij Group Ltd also graced the attendees with their presence as special guests. The whole program was inaugurated by the Principal of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College Monju Ara Begum.
Students from over thirteen different institutions participated in the festival. A number of events took place on the first and second day. Spell Bee, Extempore Speech, Intensive reading, Recitation, Quiz and Olympiad, Wall Magazine, Multimedia Presentation and Poster competition were the various events. Judges from various Institutions contributed to the competition. “It was a really nice experience participating here. It was a great opportunity to get skilled in English” said Mohsina Binte Harun, a class 9 student from VNS. Sheikh Sajid Ahmed, a participant from Rajuk Uttara Model College said “The event seems to be going on pretty well. It is by far the best language fest I have been to”.
The closing ceremony of the festival took place on 23rd March, 2014. The honorable Minister Assaduzzaman Noor, Ministry of Cultural Affairs, People's Republic Of Bangladesh was present as chief guest. Tomas Doherty, Assistant Director, Partnership and Programmes, British Council was present as well. A 30 minute mini-movie session was also held on that particular day. Towards the conclusion of the event, the winners of the competition were given crests and certificates. “Viqarunnisa English Language Club is very close to me. I have been associated with this club from the very beginning of its journey. We hosted this festival so that the students may improve their skills in English. I thank all the individuals related to the club,” says Tadneem Tabassum Adiba, President, VELC.
