BNP seeks govt assistance for Teesta long march
BNP will hold six rallies during its long march to the Teesta Barrage in Nilphamari on April 22-23 to press for Bangladesh’s due share of River Teesta.
Led by BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the long march is scheduled to start at 8:00am April 22 from the BNP’s Naya Paltan central office.
The street rallies will be held at Kaliakair in Gazipur, Tangail Sadar, Kaddar intersection in Sirajganj and Bogra Sadar on Tuesday, BNP office secretary Rizvi Ahmed said at a press briefing today at the party’s central office.
After overnight stay in Rangpur, the party will hold a public rally there at 9:00am on Wednesday and then restart their long march towards Teesta Barrage, he added.
The march will end after holding another public rally at Dalia areas of Nilphamari at 11am on Wednesday.
He hoped that the government will extend its cooperation to their long-march programme instead of any attempt to block it.
Rizvi along with some other central BNP leaders distributed leaflets in the city’s Elephant Road area to drum up public support in favour of the programme.
