BNP pledges peaceful Jan 5 rally
BNP Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed today pledged that the BNP-led 20-party alliance will hold the January 5 rally in Dhaka in a peaceful manner if government gives permission for the programme to be held.
“Do you want chaos in the country?” he posed the question to the government.
“The authorities will be responsible for any consequences if they do not give permission for the rally,” he added.
The BNP leader also mentioned that they have applied to the Housing and Public Works Department for permission to hold the rally at Suhrawardy Udyan. “But they have asked us to get permission from DMP first,” he noted.
The alliance has applied to the authorities seeking permission for staging rallies on January 3 and January 5 at Suhrawardy Udyan, Nayapaltan and Shapla Chattar.
However, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) is yet to give its permission for the programmes.
