BNP doubts fair trial in Khaleda’s graft cases
BNP today expressed doubts on whether its Chairperson Khaleda Zia would get a fair trial in the two graft cases and feared that a conspiracy was on to remove her from politics.
"The government is hatching conspiracy to keep Khaleda Zia and her elder son Tarique Rahman out of politics,” BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said while addressing a press briefing at the party’s head office at Nayapaltan.
The BNP spokesperson alleged that the government filed false cases against the duo only to prolong their stay at office.
The trial court in Dhaka has already started recording deposition of the compliant in Zia Orphanage and Zia Charitable Trust corruption cases against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and eight others.
Terming Anti-Corruption Commission chairman Mohammad Badiuzzaman statement “political”, Fakhrul said he, holding a constitutional post, cannot speak like this.
At a programme in Rangpur, the ACC chief yesterday said “If BNP chairperson is proved guilty, she will face punishment.”
Recently, the judge hearing the graft cases was changed following Khaleda’s repeated request to the High Court expressing no confidence on Judge Bashudev Roy.
The government said the move was done under “routine framework.”
