Birdem doctors back to work
Normalcy retuned to Birdem General Hospital as its doctors went back to work this morning after a two-day work abstention.
The physicians, who were protesting an assault on their three colleagues by the relatives of a patient who died on Sunday, joined their work around 8:00am, Dr Tanjina Hossain, a doctor of endocrinology department, told The Daily Star.
However, around 200 doctors formed a human chain at Shahbagh for an hour since 11:30am later demanding their security at workplace. Later, they also held a rally there.
Traffic movement on the road remained normal as the doctors held their programmes beside the road.
Earlier in the morning, the administration urged the physicians not to hold any protest programme today but the doctors did not responded to the call, an administrative official said.
Hundreds of patients are seen receiving treatment at different departments of the hospital since morning.
The doctors decided to resume work today after the withdrawal of Additional Superintendent of Police of Dhaka district ABM Masud Hossain, who allegedly had instigated the assault on three doctors following the death of the patient.
