Newly elected Speaker of the Parliament Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury asked people to bring Bangladesh to the world stage by focusing on the genius of Rabindranath Tagore. She also stressed the need to beef up the reading habit. She was addressing a gathering as the chief guest at the inauguration of the three day long festival in Shahzadpur Kuthibari marking the 152nd birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore and the centenary of the conferment of the Nobel prize on him.
Lighting the candle the festival highlighting ‘Antore Momo Bikoshito Koro Antoro Toro Hey’ was inaugurated by Dr. Shirin in Shahzadpur Kuthibari. A discussion and cultural programmes featured on the occasion.
Sirajganj Deputy Commissioner Md. Aminul Islam also the convener of the festival organising committee chaired the programme while the Speaker delivered a speech as the chief guest.
“Rabindranath Tagore brought Bengali literature into global prominence ,” said Dr. Shirin Sharmin.
Among others Gazi Ishhaque Hossain Talikder MP; Chayan Islam MP; Sirajganj Police Superintendent SM Imran Hossain; prominent Tagore singer Jannat Ara Henry also an AL leader; educationist Merina Jahan; Shahzadpur Upazila Nirbahi officer Russel Sabrin spoke on the occasion.
The speakers focused on the life and work of the Nobel Laureate. The speakers urged the government to fulfil its commitment to set up the proposed Rabindra University in Shahzadpur.
Later, the artistes of Shilpakala Academy Ulahpara in Sirajganj and artistes of Shahzadpur upazila gave renditions of Tagorean music and dance.
