School life was quite exciting for me. I did not change that many schools. I studied in one school from the beginning. I went to Loreeto from nursery to my O ‘Levels. And later on I sat for my A ‘Levels as a private candidate. I wanted to be a cricketer back in school but later switched to become a footballer! I was always a good student in school. I tried to keep my results consistent and therefore, it didn’t change when I got into Architecture at BRAC University.
I was always into art.I have been doodling with a pencil since I can remember. So ‘art’ has always been a part of me. I knew that I did not want to do a regular 9 to 9 desk job. I like my lifestyle which mostly consists of sleeping late and getting up late in the morning! But as it turns out, I got into one of those fields of work where you do not get to sleep at all! I was always interested in all forms of art. When I got into architecture I got exposed to art- in a way that I did not know it before. I guess it was during those five fun, hectic, sleepless years, I decided that I would not bog myself down to any single discipline; which is why our studio- Studio Bangi, does all kinds of art, and design work from architecture to graphic novels, from music videos to animated shorts!
My family members and friends always encouraged and supported me in whatever I wanted to pursue. Regardless of how illogical it may have seemed, they were always there for me. I guess I have been extremely fortunate in this regard. I never felt I was alone in my pursuits; there were always friends and well wishers who went out of their way to support me, inspire me and give me the occasional kick on the backside when necessary. I have way too many role models so naming one would be a difficult task.
I do things and I like to do them with the people I admire. Of course, this is not always an option for everyone. You have to know what you enjoy doing the most, it could be art or any other field. One should just go ahead with it. Do not doubt yourself (other people are there to do that!), fight through, and things will happen. At least give it a shot. That is worth more than anything. Have fun and share your ideas with other people. We have way too much of ‘secrecy’ and ‘jealousy’ in the creative world. Art is one such aspect of life where such words should have no room.
