Bangladesh Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Sangstha (BRSSS) arranged a four-day musical programme to celebrate the 152nd birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore at Shawkat Osman memorial Auditorium of Central Public Library, Shahbagh in the capital.
Artistes of the organisation celebrated Kobiguru’s birth anniversary with renditions of group and solo songs composed by the bard. The event, dedicated to the memory of Savar victims, set off with chorus of the national anthem. The organisers also raised funds for the treatment of Savar victims.
A brief inauguration programme was held prior to the solo offerings on May 8. Director General of Bangla Academy, Professor Shamsuzzaman Khan graced inaugurated the programme as chief guest.
Tagore artiste and general secretary of BRSSS, Sajed Akbar gave the welcome address, while Tagore singer and President of the organisation Tapan Mahmud presided over the inaugural programme.
About 30 artistes performed solos at the event.
Artistes rendered a number of solo songs and recited poems and excerpts from Tagore’s writings on the second day (May 9) of the programme. The third day of the programme will begin today at 5pm at the same venue.
