North South University Cine and Drama Club (NSUCDC) staged their Annual Drama ‘Fuente Ovejuna’ on April 21-22, 2013 at North South University’s Convocation Stage. Furthermore, they staged a third show in BUET Central Auditorium as a response to BUET Drama Society’s invitation to their second Inter University Drama Festival. The chief guest of the NSU show was Vice Chancellor (Acting) – Professor Abdus Sattar from North South University. In all of the three shows, the play was performed amidst the participation of a large group of audience who were left spellbound and entertained by the performance of the CDCers. The play is based upon an actual historical incident that took place in the village of Fuente Ovejuna in Castile in 1476. While under the command of the Order of Calatrava, a commander, Fernán Gómez de Guzmán, misbehaved with the villagers, who banded together and killed him. When a magistrate sent by King Ferdinand II of Aragon arrived at the village to investigate, the villagers, even under the pain of torture, responded only by saying “Fuente Ovejuna did it.”
Following the lead of the Director, M Arifur Rahman (former CDCer), NSUCDC managed to make their Annual Drama 2013 a big success. The assistance of Mahjabeen Chowdhury in costume designing and Tanjir Mehedi and Aumi in set designing further contributed to this success. The whole play would have been impossible without the undying support, guidance and encouragement of NSUCDC’s Faculty Advisor Professor Abdus Selim. In this event NSUCDC’s partial sponsor was Eastern Bank Limited and Media partners were- Ittefaq, Ekattor TV, Radio Foorti and Bdnews24.com.
NSUCDC’s Drama Fuente Ovejuna consists of around 30 members of this club. This club recruited new students of NSU for their Annual Drama.
