At least five people were killed in a head-on collision between a bus and CNG-run auto-rickshaw on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway Tuesday, police said.
Driver of the auto-rickshaw Lekhon Miah , 35, resident of Osmani Nagar, Abdur Razzaque, 65, and Waziur Rahman, 35, both from Aditya Nagar — died on the spot in the accident in Goynaghat area in the district around 10:45pm, quoting Jubayer Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Osmani Nagar Police Station, reports our Sylhet correspondent Wednesday.
The rest two victims — Abdul Alim, 20, from Palaganj and Alok Deb, 25, of Osmani Nagar, succumbed to their injuries at the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, the OC said adding that all of the five victims were passengers of the three-wheeler.
Approximately 25 kilometres away from the city, the Dhaka-bound bus of Ahmed Paribahan collided with the three-wheeler from an opposite direction, the police official said.
An injured passenger of the same vehicle — Sufian, 25, — was admitted to the hospital.
Locals torched the bus and blocked the highway immediately after the accident.
