At least 100 people including three police personnel were injured in a clash between the residents of two areas in Madan upazila of Netrakona Saturday.
Following the clash, local administration slapped section-144 in the upazila headquarter and its adjoining area from 2:00pm.
The restriction will continue until further notice, reports our Netrakona correspondent.
The clash first ensued between the groups of students of Hazi Abdul Aziz Degree College on a bridge over Magra river around 10:30am over establishing supremacy in the college, said Delwar Hossain, additional superintendent of police in Netrakona.
Of the groups, one hailed from the upazila headquarters while the other from Jahangirpur, on the outskirts of the town.
The situation worsened when the residents of the upazila headquarter and Jahangirpur joined the clash over the bridge, which connects the two areas, supporting students from the respective areas, the police official said.
On information, police rushed to the spot and fired several rounds of teargas shells to disperse the clashing groups.
At least 100 people including three cops were injured during the three-hour clash, witnesses said.
Of the injured, 80 were rushed to the local upazila health complex.
A team of riot police have been deployed in the area to avert further untoward incidents, the official said.
