BCL men trade fire at JU
At least 12 activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League were injured in an intra-party clash over establishing supremacy at Jahangirnagar University this afternoon.
Witnesses and police said one of the injured was bullet-hit as the activists exchanged at least nine rounds of fire, reports our JU correspondent.
The wounded -- Shahriar Nehal of geography and environment department – was admitted to the university medical centre.
Police said the clash was a sequel to a conflict between the groups – one headed by JU BCL Secretary Rajib Ahmed while the other by JU Vice President Ruhul Amin and Organising Secretary Faisal Islam Dipu – over establishing supremacy on the campus.
The clash first started around 3:00pm over nonpayment of food bill at a shop on the campus, leaving at least five activists injured, the campus sources.
Later around 4:00pm, the groups got into a second round of clash by trading at least nine rounds of fire that left more than seven activists injured.
The situation came under control while police along with the proctor took position on the campus in the middle of the two feuding groups.
Another BCL man was taken to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar as his condition was slated to be critical.
However, the names of the injured could not be known immediately.
