A BCL leader died in the wee hours of today, two days after he was hit by a bullet during a clash between the supporters of Awami League-backed chairman candidate and the rebel candidate in Gazipur.

At least 50 people including Al Amin were injured and eight vehicles were burnt during the clash Saturday that lasted for about four hours.

Al-Amin, who received bullet wounds in his head, was taken to Uttara Red Crescent Hospital in Dhaka soon after the clash. He was shifted to Apollo Hospital Saturday night as his condition deteriorated.

The clash ensued when the supporters of Iqbal Hossain Sabuj, AL-backed chairman aspirant in the upazila election slated for March 15, brought out a procession and gathered at the upazila AL office around 10:45am Saturday.

About half-an-hour later, the supporters of rebel candidate Abdul Jalil too brought out a procession and tried to position themselves in front of the AL office, triggering the clash with the supporters of Sabuj.
