BCL factional feud halts CU academic activities
Academic activities at Chittagong University (CU) were suspended today following a factional feud of Bangladesh Chhatra League, campus unit.
Agitated activists stopped the shuttle train service, the prime mode of transport for non-resident students, and locked the main entrance of the university, reports our Chittagong correspondent.
Today’s classes or examinations were abandoned as most of the non-resident teachers and students could not reach the campus, CU Proctor Sirajudoula told The Daily Star.
The agitation at campus began when a group, led by Suman and Mamun, allegedly attacked two supporters of Arif-Jalal group around 3:00pm yesterday.
The assaulted students were Mithun Chowdhury and Rasel Mahmud, students of computer science department.
Supporters of Arif-Jalal group alleged that the authorities did not take any step in this regard despite the warning of an ultimatum for a movement by the faction.
This morning, the agitated faction blocked the operations of all the three shuttle trains at Sholoshohor Station in the port city around 7:30am. They locked the CU gates around 11:15am.
Chhatra League is the student wing of ruling Awami League.
